Mr. Bunny
Nathan's a loyalist. He's had one favorite stuffed animal friend since infancy, the floppy eared rabbit with big feet named Mr. Bunny. According to Mr. Bunny's manufacturer, he's actually a female ballerina bunny that wears black velvet ballet toe shoes with pink laces. According to Nathan, the ballet slippers are high top sneakers and she is a definitely a he.
This stuffed rabbit was a replacement for a smaller version, which Nathan lost on a trip to San Diego. I'll never forget the day the UPS man delivered the replacement. I opened the box, and took Bunny out. Toddling over with the biggest smile on his face, Nathan picked up and hugged his long lost friend. They've been inseparable ever since then.
Now that Nathan's older, Bunny stays home most days, hanging out in Nathan's bed. But if we're going anywhere overnight, Bunny's sure to come along. I'm glad that Nathan no longer needs to take Bunny everywhere, since he's pretty worn out and threadbare. Sometimes I find the little plastic beads that make up his stuffing on the floor Nathan's room. This means that Mr. Bunny needs a date with his surgeon -- me -- to patch a hole in his fur.
To protect him, I've dressed Bunny in Nathan's old preemie newborn pajamas. It's a constant reminder of how small Nathan was at birth, and how big he's grown. Even so, he's not too big to love his Mr. Bunny.
